1. Gi
Gi Jacket is made of cotton or tetron or polyester that is normally used in iaido / kendo, black or white color. In iaido practice, it is normally preferable to use tetron or polyester or any other material that is not easily wrinkled for a more elegant look.
2. Hakama
Baggy trouser of cotton or tetron for iaido / kendo practice. In iaito practice, it is normally preferable to use any material that is not cotton, as cotton material could get wrinkled easily, for a more elegant look.
3. Obi
A long sash of cotton (that usually produced for iaido / iaijutsu practice) or of silk (called 'kaku obi' that usually used as obi for men's kimono) wore on the hip as a place to insert the iaito / katana scabbard. Obi for Iaido practice is far more longer than normal obi wore for other budo practice such as Karate, Judo, etc.
4. Iaito
Katana sword imitation that is not sharpened, made of aluminium zinc alloy, which is produced and sold for the purpose of iaido / iaijutsu / kenjutsu practice.
Please note that:
- not all katana sword imitation can be used for practice. Some types of katana sword imitation is produced and sold only for display purpose. It is very dangerous to use this display katana sword imitation in practice as its blade could fly off the grip and injure the wielder or other people.
- live blade katana / shinken is PROHIBITED to be used for practice unless prior permission from sensei has been obtained.
- consult your desire to purchase an iaito with the sensei prior to the purchase of iaito to avoid mistakes in purchasing the right iaito.
